About Shiatsu

Shiatsu Massage Devon

Shiatsu is a form of healing bodywork that connects deep into the muscles, joints and underlying energy (qi) of the body.

Shiatsu is based on the same meridian and point system as acupuncture but, instead of needles, I use intuitive, compassionate touch to connect on a profound level.

A range of techniques may be used depending on what is needed and appropriate, from gentle holding to deeply releasing stretches and pressure. Shiatsu can be deeply relaxing, powerful, energising, revitalising...

Although clients often come with physical ailments, Shiatsu works with the whole being rather than just the symptom. Everything that makes us who we are is held in our bodies. When you receive shiatsu all of you is welcomed and held; your history and your hopes, your woundedness and your perfection.

COVID-19 Safety Measures:

I am following the guidance set out by The Shiatsu Society UK in accordance with current Government Guidelines.

  • My work space and the toilet area will be deep cleaned and sanitised between each client, with all “touch-points” sanitised. All towels, blankets, futon covers etc will be washed, with a fresh set used for each client. A protective plastic sheet will be used under the futon cover, which will be sanitised between each client. All areas will be well ventilated throughout, and the treatment room will be thoroughly ventilated between each client.

  • I will be wearing the recommended PPE (a full-face visor and mask), and my work clothes will be changed between each client.

  • You will be asked to fill out a short health questionnaire and consent form prior to your session. I can email it to you in advance, or you can fill it out on arrival (in this case, please bring your own pen with you.

  • If prior to your session, you or anyone you have been in close contact with has any CV-19 symptoms or tests positive for CV-19, you will need to notify me, and you will be asked to delay your session for 2 weeks or more. (There will be no cancellation fees for cancelled or postponed appointments.)

  • If prior to your session I, or anyone I have been in close contact with, has any CV-19 symptoms or tests positive for CV-19, I will cancel your appointment.

  • On arrival for your appointment you will be asked to sanitise or wash your hands. As always, I will wash my hands thoroughly before the session.

  • I will be allowing longer gaps between clients to allow the room and toilet area to be fully ventilated, cleaned and sanitised and for me to clean my PPE, and change my clothes, futon covers, towels etc. To help me with this, please ensure you arrive at the scheduled time for your appointment.

  • Please bring your own bottle of water, your own blanket, and a pen.

  • Please pay for your session in advance by bank transfer if you can. If this is not possible you can pay by cash (please bring the exact mount, or cheque, which you can place in an envelope I will provide.

  • Please note: these enhanced safety measures have been put in place to reduce the risk of contracting Coronavirus but cannot eradicate it.

  • If you have any questions or concerns, please get in touch.

"Melanie’s presence is gentle, but solid and strong at the same time. She’s open and non-judgemental and works creatively which I really like. [She] allowed me to feel safe enough to be open and honest and I felt very supported by her.” JR

"Initially I came for shiatsu for back problems having tried [several other treatments] in the past… Shiatsu more than helped my back problems, but it also provides me with a sense of wellbeing, incredible relaxation and a sense of being at peace and able to take on the world."

"Thank you so much Melanie for the beautifully held session today. I felt incredible choice and permission to go as deep as I actually needed which I haven't experienced with a practitioner before. Deeply and genuinely grateful."

“The help you have given me is enormous and works on at least four levels – physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. I am truly coming into my own; becoming more of who I am and feel happier and more nourished in places that I thought would always be sad and empty. I am managing to believe in my own beauty, and that is a transformation so great I would not have believed it possible. I am, and will always be, hugely grateful to you.”

Mark Maddrell

" have helped me more than anyone else in my adult life... At each session there is the discussion side first and then the bodywork and it always feels like I’ve had two sessions in one – emotional and physical healing. You seem to intuitively know the right thing to do ... and this has inspired me to follow my instincts [more]... You’re such a genuinely caring, understanding person. I feel lucky to have had this experience with you and I’m eternally grateful. Thank you!"
